The Type 3 First Aid Kit – Small – CSA Z1220-24 Standard Requirements is an Intermediate First Aid Kit sized for workplaces with 2 to 25 employees per shift working in a high-risk environment — settings such as mining, oil and gas, forestry, construction, or machine shops where the likelihood and severity of injury is greater than in a typical office or retail setting.
This kit is built to the updated CSA Z1220-24 standard, the edition of the national workplace first aid kit standard that Quebec and Nova Scotia have adopted. Since each province sets its own requirements, other jurisdictions may adopt this updated edition at a later date; in the meantime they continue to operate under the previous CSA Z1220-17 standard. Which kit type and size a workplace needs depends on the number of employees per shift and the level of injury risk in the work being performed.
A Type 3 kit builds on the Type 2 Basic Kit with supplies for more serious trauma: a padded splint, plastic eye shields and sterile eye compresses, an instant cold compress, sugar packets for diabetic emergencies, and a Windlass-style tourniquet. The tourniquet itself isn't new to this kit — the previous CSA Z1220-17 edition of this Type 3 Small kit already included one, described as an "arterial tourniquet with plastic stick and buckle" — but the CSA Z1220-24 standard specifies the Windlass style used here instead.
Inside, this kit packs 112 pieces of CSA-specified first aid and trauma supplies across 31 item types: assorted fabric and plastic adhesive bandages, sterile gauze compresses in multiple sizes, sterile non-adherent compresses, trauma compresses, sterile compression bandages with gauze ties, two sizes of conforming stretch gauze bandages, an elastic bandage, triangular bandages, benzalkonium chloride (BZK) antiseptic wipes, 70% alcohol-based hand disinfectant wipes, medical examination gloves, bandage scissors, tweezers, a biohazard waste bag, an emergency first aid blanket, a CPR mask, sugar packets, an instant cold compress, a padded splint, plastic eye shields, sterile eye compresses, and a Windlass-style tourniquet. Choose the case style that suits your workplace: a soft nylon bag, a hard plastic case, or a metal case — or order a refill if you're restocking a case you already own.
