The Type 3 First Aid Kit – Large – CSA Z1220-24 Standard Requirements is an Intermediate First Aid Kit sized for workplaces with 51 to 100 employees in a high-risk environment — settings such as mining, oil and gas, forestry, construction, or machine shops where the likelihood and severity of injury is greater than in a typical office or retail setting.

This kit is built to the updated CSA Z1220-24 standard, the edition of the national workplace first aid kit standard that Quebec and Nova Scotia have adopted. Since each province sets its own requirements, other jurisdictions may adopt this updated edition at a later date; in the meantime they continue to operate under the previous CSA Z1220-17 standard. Which kit type and size a workplace needs depends on the number of employees per shift and the level of injury risk in the work being performed.

This Large kit is the top tier of the Type 3 line, scaled up from the Medium kit — most quantities roughly double, though a few items (elastic bandages, emergency blankets, sugar packets, and trauma pads) increase by a smaller margin. It includes a Windlass-style tourniquet — this kit already used a Windlass-style tourniquet under the previous CSA Z1220-17 edition, so this is unchanged going into Z1220-24 — alongside a CPR mask with one-way valve, padded splints, plastic eye shields, sterile eye pads, instant cold packs, and sugar packets for diabetic emergencies.

Inside, this kit packs 411 pieces of CSA-specified first aid and trauma supplies across 31 item types: assorted fabric and plastic adhesive bandages, sterile gauze pads in multiple sizes, sterile non-adherent pads, trauma pads, sterile compression bandages with gauze ties, two sizes of conforming stretch gauze bandages, elastic bandages, triangular bandages, benzalkonium chloride (BZK) antiseptic wipes, alcohol-based hand disinfectant wipes, medical examination gloves, bandage scissors, forceps, biohazard waste bags, emergency rescue blankets, a CPR mask, sugar packets, instant cold packs, padded splints, plastic eye shields, sterile eye pads, and a Windlass-style tourniquet. Choose the case style that suits your workplace: a soft nylon bag, a hard plastic case, or a metal case — or order a refill if you're restocking a case you already own.

Q: What's the difference between CSA Z1220-24 and CSA Z1220-17?
A: CSA Z1220-24 is the updated edition of the national workplace first aid kit standard. Quebec and Nova Scotia have adopted this newer edition, while the rest of Canada currently continues to operate under CSA Z1220-17. If your business operates in Quebec or Nova Scotia, this Z1220-24 kit is the one to use; if you operate elsewhere, check with your provincial OHS regulator on which edition applies to you.

Q: What's the difference between a Type 2 and a Type 3 kit?
A: A Type 2 Basic kit is intended for low-risk workplaces such as offices and retail settings. A Type 3 Intermediate kit like this one is intended for high-risk workplaces — mining, oil and gas, forestry, construction, machine shops, and similar settings — and adds trauma-focused supplies such as padded splints, eye shields, sterile eye pads, instant cold packs, and sugar packets on top of the standard bandages and dressings.

Q: What's the difference between the Small, Medium, and Large Type 3 kits?
A: All three are Intermediate First Aid Kits for high-risk workplaces; the size you need depends on the number of employees on your largest shift. This Large kit is sized for 51 to 100 employees. Check with Canadian Safety Supplies or your OHS regulator to confirm which size matches your headcount.

Q: Does this kit include a tourniquet?
A: Yes, a Windlass-style tourniquet. Like the Type 3 Medium kit, this Large kit already used a Windlass-style tourniquet under the previous CSA Z1220-17 edition, so this remains unchanged in the updated Z1220-24 kit.

Q: What's included in the kit?
A: 411 pieces across 31 item types, covering wound care, antiseptics, eye care, and trauma essentials — assorted adhesive bandages, sterile gauze pads and non-adherent pads, trauma pads, elastic bandages, triangular bandages, BZK antiseptic wipes, alcohol-based hand disinfectant wipes, medical examination gloves, bandage scissors, forceps, biohazard waste bags, emergency rescue blankets, a CPR mask, sugar packets, instant cold packs, padded splints, plastic eye shields, sterile eye pads, and a Windlass-style tourniquet. See the full contents list above.

Q: What case styles are available?
A: This kit is available in a soft nylon bag, a hard plastic case, or a metal case. A refill option (contents only, no case) is also available if you already own one of these cases and just need to restock it.
